Box Score The Buena Vista football team scored a late first-half touchdown to go into the half tied at 7-7, but Central would go on to score 24 unanswered points to take a 31-7 lead late in the third, en route to a 38-23 victory over the Beavers on Saturday inside of Schipper Stadium.
The Dutch went in front midway through the first quarter on a five-yard touchdown pass to cap a nine-play, 76-yard drive.
BVU, which has produced a number of big offensive plays this season, used a big 82-yard touchdown pass from Tory Beger to Ben Seitz with 43 seconds left on the second play from scrimmage following a Central punt. Tyler Stolen drilled the PAT to even things up at the break.
Central then took the opening kick-off of the second half and marched down into BVU territory where it eventually connected on a 38-yard field goal with 12:12 remaining. Then after a Beaver punt, the Dutch extended the margin to 17-7 near the 5:00 mark on a one-yard touchdown plunge.
The Beavers were forced to again on the enusing kick-off, and the Dutch took the ball 67 yards in under 3:00 to push the lead up to 24-7 with 2:16 left in the third.
BVU then threw back-to-back interceptions, and the second resulted in points, as the Dutch needed just six plays to go 24 yards and make it a 31-7 lead.
Seitz helped set up Buena Vista's first touchdown score of the second half when he took the ensuing kick-off 68 yards back to the Dutch 26. Two plays later, Beger connected with Jalen Henningsen on a 22-yard touchdown pass with 9:10 left in the fourth. The two followed that up with a successful two-point conversion pass to make it a 31-15 contest.
Central, however, got those points back quickly on a 53-yard touchdown burst on the second play of its next drive, giving the Dutch a 38-15 lead.
Trevor Trunck took over for BVU late in the fourth quarter and went a perfect 5-for-5 through the air, including a one-yard pass to TJ Lint that made it 38-21 with under two minutes left. The two again connected on a successful two-point conversion that proved to be the game's final score.
Stolen's onside kick attempt was recovered by the Dutch at its own 49-yard line, and Central was able to just run the clock out from there.
Beger completed 18-of-30 attempts for 240 yards and two touchdowns, but was intercepted three times. Trunck chalked up 101 yards and the one score, as BVU outgained the Dutch 341-193 through the air.
Seitz finished with a game-high 122 yards receiving on six grabs with Lint right behind at 111 on seven catches. Henningsen just missed out on making it a trio to reach triple digits, as he finished with a team-best eight catches and 85 yards.
Central (6-3, 4-2 IIAC) did most of its damage on the ground where it chalked up 321 yards compared to only 34 for the Beavers. Pat Gray contributed 178 of those yards on just 16 carries, while Adam Lindell followed with 58 on 12 rushes.
Buena Vista dips to 1-8 overall (0-6 IIAC) and will close out the 2015 campaign next Saturday when it hosts Coe College (3-6, 2-4 IIAC) in a 3:00pm kick-off inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
