Box Score Coe College outscored Buena Vista 21-0 in the second quarter to take a 35-7 halftime lead, and the Kohawks went on to hand the Beavers a 52-14 home loss to close out the 2015 season on Saturday evening.
After the team's traded punts on their opening possessions, they then traded touchdowns on their second. Coe went in front first with 11:21 to go in the opening quarter before BVU responded with a 63-yard drive that was capped by a Cody Mowery two-yard plunge midway through the period.
The Kohawks made it consecutive touchdown drives to go back in front at 14-7 on a four-yard scamper by quarterback Josh Rekers.
Buena Vista was driving on its next possession but a crucial fumble inside the Coe 15-yard line was recovered by the Kohawks to keep BVU off the board.
The Beavers turned it over again with an interception deep in their own territory, and the Kohawks took advantage, getting a nine-yard touchdown run to make it a 28-7 contest. Buena Vista then was forced to go three-and-out, giving Coe one final possession late in the half, and Coe went 57 yards in just six plays, capped by a 12-yard touchdown strike and 28-point halftime lead.
Buena Vista got the football to start the second half and marched all the way down to the Kohawk seven, but turned it over on downs to kill the drive.
Coe, meanwhile scored touchdowns on each of its first two possessions of the second half, including an opening drive that shaved off more than nine minutes of the clock to make it 42-7.
Senior Ben Seitz, playing in his final career game, hauled in a 22-yard strike from Tory Beger to make it 49-14 before Coe added a 42-yard field goal for the game's final score with 7:18 to play.
The Kohawks (4-6, 3-4 IIAC) chalked up over 500 yards of total offense, including 322 through the air. Rekers completed 25-of-32 attempts for 301 yards and two scores. Elijah Phillips hauled in seven for 94 yards with Trevor Heitland right behind with nine grabs and 91 yards and one score.
Beger turned in 202 yards passing on 19-of-28 with Seitz finishing with six grabs and 88 yards. Jalen Henningsen, who will return next season after missing all of last year, added a team-high eight catches for 74 yards, as he comes up only six yards shy of becoming the third player in school history to reach 1,000 in a single season.
Mowery ran the ball 15 times for 52 yards.
Nick Amundson registered a team-high 12 tackles for BVU, while senior Connor Ulven was right behind at 10.
Buena Vista closes out its season at 1-9 overall (0-7 IIAC). The game also concluded the careers of 12 seniors.
