Box Score The Buena Vista volleyball team stepped out of Iowa Conference play on Saturday morning to face Northwestern-St. Paul on the road, and the Eagles were able to create just enough offense in the end to knock off the Beavers in a 3-2 thriller inside of the Ericksen Center.
Jade Schaap and Maddie Bardole each registered a double-double for BVU, while Nevada Meiss was also in double figures in kills. Schaap led the team with 16 kills to go along with 17 digs, while Bardole followed up with 12 kills and a team-leading 19 digs. Meis, meanwhile, turned in 11 kills and a pair of block assists.
Schaap, who entered just 10 kills away from fourth on the all-time list, now has that spot all to herself with 847. Bardole closes the gap on the all-time kills list, and needs only 20 to tie that mark of 1,312.
Sophomore Laura Barry became the third player in program history to reach 2,000 assists, as she dished out 45 more agains the Eagles and now has 2,036 in her career.
Sophomore Emily Mathews tallied three block assists and now has 139 total blocks in her career, moving her into eighth on the program's all-time list.
The Eagles (14-7) held off a big rally by BVU late in the decisive fifth set. They held an 11-7 lead before BVU fought back and the match was all-square at 12-12. From there, the Eagles won the final three points to secure the win.
Lindsay Peterson led all players with a match-high 19 kills for the Eagles, who have now won eight in a row.
Buena Vista is now 13-8 overall and will have a few days off before returning to Siebens Fieldhouse on October 6 for a key Iowa Confernce match-up against Loras College (11-8, 2-1 IIAC). The Duhawks will enter the match riding a seven-match win streak, including a 3-1 home victory over Coe College last Tuesday. Start time is scheduled for 7:30pm.
