Volleyball Edged Twice on First Day of Eau Claire Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Buena Vista volleyball team faced a pair of quality of opponents on Friday night to begin play at the UW-Eau Claire Tournament but the Beavers came up short in both outings, falling 3-1 to UW-Platteville and 3-2 against UW-Stout.

In the opener against the Pioneers, junior Maddie Bardole became the program's all-time leader in kill as she finished with 10.  That total gave her 1,319, moving her past Ashley Wilde (1,312) for the top spot.  She also chipped in with seven digs and three block assists.

Jade Schaap added eight kills and 12 digs, while Emily Mathews also turned in eight kills to go along with a team-high six total blocks.

Sydnee Donnelli registered a team-leading 20 digs, defensively, as Laura Barry dished out 28 assists.

UW-P jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 25-22 and 25-21 triumphs in the first two sets before BVU avoided the sweep with a 25-18 win in set three.  The Pioneers, however, put a stop to any Beaver comeback with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set to win the match.

BVU looked to bounce back in the nightcap, but again fell a little short while being edged in a thrilling five-set match to UW-Stout.

Schaap had the hot hand for the Beavers, turning in a season-high 24 kills and a .431 attack percentage.  Defensively, she added nine digs and three block assists.  Bardole was next with 14 kills and eight digs.  Laura Barry dished out 48 assists with Donnelli tallying 22 digs.

Buena Vista is now 15-10 overall and will look to bounce back on Saturday as it plays two more matches to wrap up the two-day event.  First up will be Northwestern-St. Paul at noon.
