Carson Records Hat Trick as Beavers Remain Unbeaten with 6-1 Road Win

Box Score

Martin Luther scored the first goal against the Buena Vista women's soccer team this season, but the Beavers responded with six unanswered goals to remain unbeaten on the year with the 6-1 road victory over the Knights (1-2).

BVU trailed for the first time this season only eight minutes into the contest, but the deficit was short-lived.  Four minutes later, junior Tori Carson evened the match at 1-1 with her second goal of the year of an assist from Kelsey O'Connor.

The Beavers took the lead for the first time when freshman Caroline Maher turned in her third goal of the year midway through the half off a feed from Naomi Wood.  Maher then dished out an assist to Carson, who gave BVU a 3-1 lead at the half with her second goal of the day during the 31'.

Senior Sam Richards started the second half scoring for BVU with a midway through.  From there, Taylor Daniel turned in her first goal of the year to make it 5-1 before Carson capped her hat trick during the 86' off an assist from Daniel.

It marks the highest goal total for the Beavers since blanking Faith Baptist on September 20, 2012.

Maher turned in a team-high five shots, including the one on-goal with Carson right behind with four shots (three on-goal).  She moves within four goals of second on the program's all-time goals list.

Buena Vista held a slim, 16-15, edge in total shots, as the team avenges a 5-2 loss to the Knights in last year's season-opener.

Rachel Novotny remains perfect on the year in-goal, as the freshman once again goes the distance, allowing just the one goal and recording five saves.

Buena Vista improves to 3-0-1 on the year and will look to remain unbeaten when it hosts Nebraska Wesleyan in a non-conference match inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium on Wednesday, September 10, at 6:00pm.
