Box Score The eighth-ranked UW-Platteville football team chalked up 531 yards of total offense and scored at least twice in all four quarters on Saturday afternoon, as the Pioneers handed the Buena Vista football team a tough 63-3 home loss in the season opener for both teams.
The Pioneers scored the first 21 points of the game before a 25-yard field goal by sophomore Tyler Stolen but BVU on the board with 11:03 left in the first half. From there, it was all UW-P, scoring two more first half touchdowns for a 35-3 halftime advantage.
A touchdown pass five minutes into the second half made it 42-3 with another touchdown run midway through the third quarter made it 49-3 heading to the fourth. Two more scores in the final frame, including a 10-yard fumble return, made it 63-3.
Tailback Andy Puccini helped lead the way for Platteville, carrying the ball 13 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Bryce Corrigan was equally as tough through the air, completing 16-of-25 passes for 213 yards and three scores.
Trevor Whitehead was his go-to receiver, as he hauled in six catches for 93 yards, including one for 49 yards. Russell Martin caught two passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns, while Dan Arnold had four receptions for 54 yards and one touchdown.
It was a tough day offensively for BVU, finishing with just 277 yards of total offense and six turnovers.
Senior Dylan Barrett accounted for 118 of those yards as he carried the ball 19 times, including a long burst of 58 yards. Junior Ben Seitz added a run of 39 yards on one of his two carries in the game.
Quarterback Bobby Brown finished 9-for-21 for 108 yards and was intercepted four times. Seitz also hauled in a team-leading four passes for 39 yards, includng one that went for 40 yards. Adam Cave caught just two passes for 41 yards.
Defensively, Logan Emendorfer led UW-P with six tackles with Devon Vance adding five. Linebacker Evan Constant had four tackles, including one for a loss, to go along with a forced fumble and one quarterback hurry. Jacob Zilbar had two of the four interceptions by the Pioneer defense.
For Buena Vista, John Beck tallied a career-high 10 tackles with Connor Downs next with eight. Junior Matt Schmidt had the team's only sack.
Stolen punted the ball five times for an average of 40.4, including a 46-yard boot on his first attempt. He also made 1-of-2 field goal attempts with his miss coming from 31 yards.
The Beavers will look to bounce back next week when they go on the road for the first of back-to-back road games. Saturday's contest will be at Concordia-Moorhead with kick-off slated for 1:00pm.
