Women's Soccer Suffers 6-1 Loss at College of St. Mary (Neb.)

The College of St. Mary built a 3-0 halftime lead and led by four goals before Tori Carson turned in her first goal of the year midway through the second half, but the Flames would add two more late insurance goals en route to the 6-1 victory over the Buena Vista women's soccer team on Wednesday night.

The Flames wasted little time finding the score column, taking a 1-0 lead less than seven minutes into the contest.  It took a 2-0 lead during the 19' before building a three-goal halftime lead with another goal in the 39'.

CSM made it a 4-0 advantage during the 62' before Carson got BVU on the board early in the 78' with an unassisted goal.  The Flames added a pair of goals over the final six minutes of the match to hand the Beavers just their second loss of the season (3-2-2).

Coming into the match, BVU had allowed only two goals on the year.

The Flames, who improved to 2-2 overall, outshot BVU in the contest, 31-10, including 14-8 shots-on-goal.

Carson led Buena Vista with five shots on the day (all on-goal).

Freshman Rachel Novotny went the first 71 minutes in-goal for BVU, allowing four goals and chalking up seven saves.

Up next for the Beavers will be a non-conference road contest at Dordt College next Tuesday afternoon at 4:00pm.  That'll be the final match before the team opens Iowa Conference play against nationally-ranked Dubuque on September 27.
