Volleyball Picks up Another Win on Final Day of Gustavus Adolphus Invite

The Buena Vista volleyball picked up two wins on Friday to begin the Gustavus Adolphus Invite and followed that up on Saturday with a win in its final match to cap a 3-1 weekend heading into the Iowa Conference opener.

The Beavers began the day with a tough 3-1 setback to Augsburg (9-3).  BVU won set one, 25-18, but then dropped three straight by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.

Maddie Bardole and Jade Schaap each posted double-doubles in the match.  The duo each totaled 15 kills and finished with 10 and 13 digs, respectively.  Laura Barry tallied 37 assists and nine digs, while Jordan Henningsen matched Schaap with 13 digs.

BVU tallied 46 kills in the match and a .206 attack percentage.

The day ended on a strong note for BVU, as the team bounced back with a 3-1 triumph over UW-Stout (6-4).

BVU again won the opening set, winning 25-22 before UW-Stout came back to even the match with a 25-20 victory.  The Beavers then built a 2-1 lead with a thrilling 26-24 triumph before closing things out with a 25-21 win.

Bardole added 22 more kills to lead the offensive attack, and she now has 282 on the year.  Schaap was right behind with 20 kills, as well as a .318 hitting percentage.  The duo also led the way on the defensvie side with 19 and 17 digs, respectively.

Barry dished out 47 assists and also accounted for a team-high four ace serves as well as 17 digs.  Henningsen added 10 digs and two ace serves, as the Beavers totaled 12 aces in the match.

Only three of the team's first 15 matches have gone three sets.

Buena Vista improves to 8-7 overall and will get set to open Iowa Conference play coming up on Thursday, September 18, when it hosts Central College at 7:30pm.  The Beavers are 1-1 on their home court this season following a 3-0 win over William Penn on Tuesday night.
