Men's Basketball Rolls to 25-Point Road Win at Martin Luther

Box Score

The Buena Vista men's basketball team shot over 52 percent from the field and had five players score in double figures on Tuesday night, as the Beavers went on the road and picked up a convincing 90-65 victory over Martin Luther College.

Senior Nick Wuebker and junior Nick Clark each turned in 15 points to help lead the way, as senior Cole Darrow and sophomore Kennedy Drey both added 11.  Senior Tyler Kastantin came off the bench and made a pair of three-pointers and chipped in with 10 points.

As a team, the Beavers connected on 9-of-22 attempts from downtown and 52.6 percent of their field goal attempts overall.

Senior Brett Heitkamp hauled in a team-high six rebounds with fellow senior Grady Gallagher right behind with five rebounds as well as five assists.  Senior Alex Savage dished out seven assists.

Todd Brassow turned in a game-high 20 points to help lead the Knights who remain winless on the year.

Kastantin made both of his three-point attempts right out of the gate to put BVU in front 9-2 in the early going.  A three-point bucket from Drey pushed the lead into double digits for the first time at 20-10 midway through the opening half.

The Knights then pulled back within five at 23-18, and the two teams were then going back-and-forth until six straight points from Wuebker made it a 35-24 Beaver lead with under four minutes to go.

Martin Luther tried to stay close, trailing just 39-30, before BVU closed the half with five straight points to take a 14-point lead into halftime.

A 14-2 run to start the second half by the Beavers quickly pushed the lead up to 26 with only four minutes gone by.

The Knights clawed their way back within 18 before a pair of free-throws from Kastantin, followed by a three-pointer from Darrow, quickly pushed the advantage back to 23.  From there, Martin Luther got no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

The win improves the Beavers to 4-3 on the year.  The team will return to action for the last time before taking finals next week when it travels to Morningside College this Saturday, December 6, for a 5:00pm tip-off with the Mustangs.
