Box Score The bid for the program's first-ever Iowa Conference tournament championship came up a little short for the Buena Vista volleyball team on Saturday night as the Beavers fell on the road to top-seed Coe College, 3-0.
The first set was back-and-forth throughout, but Coe would go on a late surge and never look back en route to an opening-set victory, 25-20. The Kohawks then jumped out to a quick lead in set two before BVU fought its way back midway through. Just as they did in the first set, Coe (28-8) went on a late rally and took the set, 25-17.
After just seven hitting errors combined in the first two sets, the Beavers had nine alone in the third set and couldn't string together enough of a rally in the set, as Coe went on to take the set, 25-16, and the match.
Sophomore Maddie Bardole turned in nine kills on the night, while also posting 10 digs. Freshman of the Year, Jade Schaap, also turned in nine kills to go along with her two block assists.
Celie Kohls and Emily Mathews were not far behind with seven and six kills, respectively, with Mathews also adding a pair of block assists.
Laura Barry dished out 24 assists and finishes the season with a school-record 1,462.
The lone senior on the team, Jordan Henningsen, saw her career come to a close tonight with the loss. She turned in a match-high 15 digs and will end things ontop as the single-season record holder for digs (688) and had at least 10 in all 36 matches.
Buena Vista falls one win shy of matching the school record set in 1985, but finishes with a stellar 25-11 mark overall.
