Box Score Buena Vista freshman Jade Schaap continues to shine on the court during her first collegiate season, and on Monday, the weekly honors kept filing in, as she was named the Iowa Conference's Volleyball Offensive Performer of the Week.
Schapp earned the weekly honors for the first time in her career after she was a key component which saw BVU go 3-0 for the week while running its win streak to eight. Earlier this season, she was tabbed Defensive Performer of the Week.
The week began when she chalked up a match-high 20 kills during the Beavers' thrilling IIAC road win at Loras College on October 8. Later in the week, she added 14 kills in a 3-1 win against Minnesota-Morris and a match-high 17 against Bethany Lutheran on Saturday. Those two matches were part of the Bethan Lutheran Triangular.
She finished the week hitting better than .300 and also posted her 11th double-double (kills-digs) of the year by also registering 11 digs against the Duhawks.
Her 51 kills on the week move her within 26 of reaching 400 on the year. She's closing in on teammate Maddie Bardole's school record for a freshman of 416 set just last year.
After falling behind 2-1 to Loras, Schaap helped lead the team back to its first win over the Duhawks since 2007 and within one win conference win of securing the team's first IIAC Tournament berth since 2007.
BVU improves to 17-8 overall, matching last season's win total. The team has not won more than 17 matches in a season since going 26-12 back in 1985.
The team can secure the IIAC Tournament berth tonight as it hosts Luther College at 7:00pm.
