Box Score 2 The Buena Vista volleyball team inched its way closer to its first 20-win season in nearly 30 years on Saturday, as the Beavers chalked up wins over Minnesota-Morris and Bethany Lutheran College, respectively, to run their current win streak to eight.
BVU, which had already beaten Minnesota-Morris earlier this season, kept the win streak alive with a 3-1 victory, despite dropping set one. The Beavers then cruised to a 3-0 sweep of the host Vikings, including a 25-9 rout in the final set.
Against Minnesota-Morris (18-6), sophomore Maddie Bardole turned in 21 kills, to give her a new career-high of 435 on the year, while also moving into third on the program's single-season list. She also had 11 digs and two service aces. Freshman Jade Schaap followed with 14 kills and nine digs, while Emily Mathews added 13 kills and two total blocks.
Freshman Laura Barry dished out 43 assists and also added 12 digs for her 13th double-double of the year.
The momentum carried over to the match with BLC, as the Beavers went on to win 25-20, 25-23 and 25-9.
Schaap led all players with 17 kills and a .489 hitting percentage and moved into ninth on the program's single-season list with 374. Bardole was next with nine kills and moves within three of Lacie Drennan for second on the single-season list. The school record for kills in a season is 462 by Ashely Wilde in 2006.
Barry dished out 30 more assists and becomes just the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 assists in a season. Henningsen, meanwhile, posted 23 digs and four service aces. She moves into sixth on the single-season digs list with 456.
The eight-match win streak is the longest since the team also won eight straight in 2006.
BVU, now 17-8 on the year, returns to action on Monday night, October 13, for an Iowa Conference match inside of Siebens Fieldhouse against Luther College (12-12, 1-3 IIAC). A win over the Norse will put BVU into the IIAC Tournament for the first time since 2007.
Monday's match with Luther is scheduled to start at 7:00pm.
