Box Score

The Buena Vista volleyball team returned home on Wednesday night, and the Beavers kept their recent momentum going, as they went on to pick up a 3-0 sweep of Simpson College to earn their first victory over the Storm in eight years.

BVU took a 1-0 lead with a 25-19 victory in set one before rallying all the way back from an 11-5 deficit in the second set to win, 25-22.  BVU then held off a late Storm rally in the third set to win, 25-23.

Sophomore Maddie Bardole totaled a match-high 17 kills to help lead the way offensively for BVU, while freshman Jade Schaap followed with 13.  The duo also tallied double-doubles with 12 and 11 digs, respecitvely.

Emily Mathews chipped in with nine kills and five block assists.  Also defensively, senior Jordan Henningsen surpassed 1,000 career digs in the second set and finished the night with 21.

Freshman Laura Barry dished out 42 assists, while adding 12 digs and a pair of block assists.

As a team, the Beavers posted a .271 hitting percentage, including a .326 clip in the second set while posting 18 kills.

The win gives BVU multiple Iowa Conference victories in a single season for the first time since going 2-8 back in 2008.  The team improves to 14-8 overall (2-1 IIAC) and will look to extend the current win streak to six straight matches when they go back on the road to Loras College (9-12, 0-3 IIAC) next Wednesday night, October 8.
