Box Score The Buena Vista volleyball team opened Iowa Conference play on the road Wednesday night, but it was Simpson College getting past the Beavers in three sets, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.
Senior Chelsea Clayton finished with a team-leading 12 kills, as no other Beaver was in double-figures. Maddie Bardole and Shelby Wiederhoeft each followed with six kills with Bardole also adding a team-best 14 digs.
Simpson pulled away from a 5-5 tie in the opening set to take control, as BVU posted only eight kills, while also finishing with eight errors.
BVU again trailed in the second, but used a 14-kill effort to claw back within 19-17 before Simpson closed things out.
The Storm, despite recording just nine kills, wrapped up the match with another late push late in set three.
Buena Vista dips to 6-3 overall (0-1 IIAC) and looks to get back on track this Friday at the Grinnell College Triangular. The Beavers will face the host Pioneers at 5:00pm.
