Box Score Freshman Naomi Wood converted a nice pass from Kelsey O'Connor for her first career goal, and it also proved to be the game-winner during Buena Vista's 2-1 home triumph over Illinois College on the final day of the BVU Classic.
With the game tied at 1-1, Wood took a nice cross pass from O'Connor just in front of the goal which she then kicked past the keeper, giving BVU the 2-1 lead with just over 10 minutes gone by in the second half.
The Beavers took the early 1-0 lead when sophomore Tori Carson, who now has 18 career goals, turned in her second of the year just six minutes into the match. Off of Sarah Kensinger's corner kick, Sam Richards found the ball, gathered and found an open Carson who put it past an outstretched keeper.
The Lady Blues, who out-shot the Beavers, 11-7 in the contest, squared things up midway through the opening half, and that's the way things stood until earlier in the second.
Wood, Carson and Richards all had two shots on-goal to help lead BVU offensively, while Patricia Schwartz and Anna Houghton combined for the win in-goal, while each posted one save.
BVU is now 1-1 on the year and will now head to Nebraska Wesleyan on September 4 for a 6:00pm non-conference match against the Prairie Wolves.
