Halverson Era Begins with Big Win over Storm

The Buena Vista women's tennis team shrugged off the heat and humidity on Thursday afternoon, as the Beavers used solid play the entire match to help give head coach Rick Halverson a big 7-2 victory over visiting Simpson College in his BVU coaching debut.

The Beavers took the early 2-1 lead by picking up wins at both the number two and three double slots.  Senior Elizabeth Heffernan teamed up with junior Tasha Nelson to secure a convincing 8-1 decision before junior Samantha Kavan and freshman Emmerly Mai picked up an 8-4  victory in the three slot.

It was all BVU in singles play, winning five of the six matches, with all five coming in straight sets.

The victory was the team's first over the Storm since 1985 when it won 7-0.

Buena Vista is now 1-0 (1-0 IIAC) and will now host Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
