Men's Basketball Falls 82-69 at Gustavus Adolphus

Box Score

Four players were in double figures for Buena Vista on Saturday night at Gustavus Adolphus, led by junior Cole Darrow's 16 points, but the Beavers came up on the short-end of an 82-69 contest with the Gusties.

Darrow shot 7-of-14 from the field in the contest and also hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.  Alex Savage and Greg Sibenaller each followed with 13 points, while shooting a combined 9-for-13.  Savage also dished out a team-best four assists.

Junior Grady Gallagher turned in a career-high 11 points, including a 3-for-4 effort from downtown.

As a team, the Beavers shot 47 percent from the field and 15-of-23 at the free-throw line.

Gustavus did alot of its damage from long range in the early going, connecting on 11-of-20 attempts overall from beyond the arc.  The Gusties finished the game shooting better than 53 percent from the floor and attempted only seven free-throws in the contest.

BVU turned the ball over 15 times, compared to just seven for the Gusties.

Gustavus hit its first three long-range buckets to jump out to a 17-6 less than five minutes into the contest.  BVU got back within three after a Savage three-pointer with 7:33 left in the half, but that was as close as the Beavers got as the Gusties took a 46-37 lead into the half.

The lead was bumped to 16 just six minutes into the second half, and the Gusties maintained the double-digit lead for most of the way.  BVU was able to get back within single digits on a layup from Brett Heitkamp with just over three minutes to play.

Back-to-back baskets from the Gusties, however, quickly put them back up by 12, and they never looked back from there.

Jordan Dick made four three-pointers for Gustavus and finished with a game-high 20 points.

Gustavus improves to 2-0 on the year, while BVU dips to 0-2.  The Beavers will return to the court again next weekend when they take part in the UW-Oshkosh Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  The team will open play on Friday night against Clarke College at 5:00pm
