Beavers End Season with 3-1 Road Win at Coe College

Box Score

The Buena Vista men's soccer team led 1-0 at the half before scoring a pair of insurance goals near the end of the second half en route to a thrilling 3-1 Iowa Conference road victory at Coe College on Tuesday afternoon to end its 2013 campaign.

Senior Tyler Lafferty, playing in his final collegiate match, put BVU on the board first with his fourth goal of the year just 15 minutes in.  The goal is also the 15th of his career, and he finishes his career ranked second all-time in goals and tied for first in assists (12).

The score remained unchanged until freshman Kwame Antwi posted his team-leading sixth goal of the year early in the 71st minute off a nice lead pass from Drake Ruth.

The Kohawks (5-11-1, 0-7 IIAC) avoided the shutout by getting on the board eight minutes later, and that was the way things stood until Fabian Salazar took a header off a blocked shot from Joey Stivers for a big insurance goal with less than a minute to play for the final points of the match.

BVU finished with only nine shots, including six on-goal, but made the most of its opportunities in the end.  Coe took 15 total shots, but had only five on-goal. Jordan Balster, who went the distance in-goal for the Beavers, tallied four saves.

Buena Vista ends its 2013 campaign at 5-13 overall (1-6 IIAC).  Aside from Lafferty, the match was also the final one in the careers of Seth Moeller, Seth Bringle, Roland Pappoe and Alex Chavez.
