BVU men's soccer vs. Cornell College

Men's Soccer

Dutch Score Twice in Each Half to Top Beavers on Senior Day

Box Score

Tyler Smaha turned in his second goal of the season on Saturday afternoon against Central, but it was too-little-too-late, as Central College, which scored twice in each half, hung on and topped the Buena Vista men's soccer team, 4-1.

Smaha converted a nice pass from Joey Stivers out of the corner nearing the one minute mark left in the contest to put BVU on the board and avoid the shutout.

Central scored twice in the first seven minutes of the match and led by that same margin at the half.  The Dutch then extended that lead with a goal less than five minutes into the second half before adding a late goal to build the 4-0 cushion.

The Dutch held a slim, 9-7, advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes before out-shooting BVU, 13-4, in the second half.

Tyler Lafferty, who was one of four seniors recognized prior to the match, led BVU with three shots (all on-goal), as Rolando Zuniga also finished with a pair of shots-on-goal in three attempts.

Matt Tennyson and Jordan Balster each played one half in-goal, defensively, for the Beavers, who fall to 4-11 overall (0-5 IIAC).

Central improves to 8-6-1 (2-3 IIAC).

The Beavers will now wrap up their 2013 home schedule on Monday night with a non-conference match against Concordia-Moorhead beginning at 7:00pm inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
