Box Score 2 The Buena Vista volleyball team turned in a solid night offensively on Friday, and that helped propel the team to a pair of victories during the Waldorf College Invite against Valley City (N.D.) and Mayville State, respectively.
BVU held on to win the opening set, 25-22, against Valley City before rolling to 25-19, 25-18 wins to close out the match. Freshman Maddie Bardole posted a team-leading 15 kills in the match with Chelsea Clayton and Shelby Wiederhoeft following with 12 apiece. All three players finished with a hitting percentage above .350, including a stellar .421 mark by Clayton.
Jordan Leehy dished out 40 assists, and also posted six digs and four block assists. Clayton led all players with five total blocks, while Jordan Henningsen chalked up a team-high 12 digs.
Clayton posted 15 kills and Wiederhoeft 12 against Mayville State, as the Beavers took the match, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14. Clayton now has 291 kills on the year, setting a new career-high, surpassing last year's total of 288.
Bardole followed with nine kills and now has 345 on the year, moving her into 10th on the program's single-season list.
Leehy posted 38 more assists, and she moves to within 78 of becoming the seventh player in school history to reach 1,000 assists in a single season.
Taylor Salisbury posted four ace serves to go along with her team-leading 15 digs. She now has 349 digs on the year.
Buena Vista moves to 16-9 on the year and secures the program's first winning season since 2005 when it went 17-15. It's only the sixth winning season for BVU all-time, and it needs just two more wins to post its second-highest win total all-time.
The Beavers will look to move one step closer to that mark and one step closer to picking up an Iowa Conference Tournament berth when it wraps up its 2013 home schedule on Wednesday night with an IIAC showdown against Loras College beginning at 7:30pm.
