Box Score UW-River Falls took a 3-0 lead into halftime and added two more insurance goals in the second half, as the Falcons held off the Buena Vista women's soccer team on Wednesday evening, 5-2.
Sam Richards made it a 3-1 contest just over a minute into the second half when she knocked home a free kick from about eight yards out directly in front of the goal. The Falcons then added a pair of goals midway through the period before Kayleigh Mize converted a penalty shot from nearly the same spot as Richards for her first career goal.
UW-RF (5-7-1) held a 17-5 shots advantage in the contest, including a 10-1 edge in the first half.
Tricia Schwartz went the distance in-goal for the Beavers and did record five saves.
Buena Vista is now 2-12-1 overall and will return to Iowa Conference play on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Central College at 1:00pm. It will also be Senior Day for BVU with four seniors recognized prior to the start of the match.
