Box Score Freshman Maddie Bardole led all players with 17 kills to lead the Buena Vista volleyball team on Tuesday night, but it wasn't quite enough, as the Beavers couldn't overcome a tough hitting night as they fell at home to Coe College, 3-1.
The Kohawks came out and built a 15-9 lead in the opening set and finished the set scoring 10 of the final 13 points.
Coe (20-2, 3-0 IIAC) scored the first point of the second set, but that was the last lead the Kohawks had until it regained the advantage at 14-13. BVU had built an early 6-2 lead before Coe clawed back to tie it at 8-8, and the rest of the set went back-and-forth with the Kohawks holding their largest lead at 22-17 before going on to win, 25-22.
BVU hung tough in the third set, as the Kohawks dropped their first set in conference play, and just the sixth over their last 19 matches.
BVU broke a 5-5 tie and held the lead the rest of the way, despite leading by no more than four at any point, including the final margin, 25-21.
Coe, however, was too much in the fourth set, breaking a 4-4 tie by scoring 11 of the next 14 points to take a 15-7 lead en route to the 25-11 triumph.
Aside from Bardole, Chelsea Clayton added six kills, as BVU finished with 36. Clayton did turn in a team-leading three total blocks. Jordan Leehy dished out 34 assists.
Also defensively, Taylor Salisbury recorded a match-high 22 digs with Bardole and Jordan Henningsen following with 10.
Buena Vista, now 12-5 overall (1-2 IIAC) will look to bounce back on Thursday evening when it stays at home to host Dordt College in a 5:00pm contest.
