Women's Tennis Clinches Spot into IIAC Team Tournament

The Buena Vista women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season Iowa Conference schedule over the weekend, and despite a pair of tough losses, the Beavers still clinched a spot into the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Team Tournament which will take place in the spring.

The team was in action on Saturday with a conference match at Luther College, and the Norse, who have just one loss on the year, handed BVU an 8-1 loss. The double tandem of Kassidy Ipsen and Samantha Kavan posted the lone victory of the day, picking up an 8-6 win in their number three match.

A handful of singles matches came down to the wire as well, with both the number two matches being pushed to the third set tie breaker, and the Norse were able to come away with 10-6 and 10-7 triumphs in each of those. Ipsen was also edged in the third set of her number five match, taking the opening set 6-1 before falling 7-6 and 10-4 down the stretch.

The team was quickly back in action on Sunday, traveling to Wartburg College, and it was the Knights (8-3, 4-2 IIAC) taking the match, 9-0. Ipsen nearly got the team into the win column, but for the second straight day was edged in the third set after taking the opening set.

BVU closes out its regular season schedule at 4-7 overall (2-5 IIAC). The team will now take part in the IIAC Individual Championships this Friday and Saturday in Cedar Rapids which will close out the fall portion of its schedule.
