Marc Baumbach begins his sixth season as head men's soccer coachin the fall of 2014.
The Beavers have made significant strides forward since he tookover the reigns, having won at least six matches in two of the lastfour seasons after not having done so in consecutive years sincedoing it six straight times from 2000-05.
The team allowed 62 goals in the year prior to Baumbach takingover, and that number has decreased nearly each year since hisarrival, including only 40 goals in 2011, which marked the lowestsingle-season total since 2006. The team has also gone fromscoring only eight goals in his first season to 27 in 2012 and 29in 2013.
His 2010 and 2013 squads were given the Iowa Conference's FairPlay Award which is handed out to the team in the league with thelowest number of yellow/red cards throughout the duration of theseason.
Four individual players have found themselves in the top-10 incareer points since his arrival on campus. He's also coachedan Honorable Mention All-IIAC performer in each of the last twoseasons.
Baumbach arrived on campus after serving as coach for the St.Croix Valley Soccer Club and the Premier Midwest Regional Leaguefor boys in Minnesota - a position he has held since 1999. This season, his under-17 team tied for first in the PremierMidwest Regional League (Blue Division), finished Runner-up at theMinnesota State Cup and was a semifinalist at the Adidas Showcasein Dallas, Texas. It also finished the season ranked #1 inMinnesota, #5 in Region II, and #16 nationally, according togotsoccer.com.
He is no stranger to the Iowa Conference, as he served as thetop assistant coach for the Luther College men's and women's soccerprograms from 2001-07. During that span, the Norse women compiledan overall record of 87-43-12 and were the Iowa Conference regularseason champions three times, while qualifying for the tournamentchampionship in 2004. On the men's side, the Norse went 82-57-7,including a trip to the 2002 West Region Semifinals and the 2001NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. The team was also awarded the IIACFair Play Award in each of his last two seasons.
Marc has also earned a number of NSCAA Diplomas, including theNSCAA Premier Diploma in 2007, while most recently earning theNSCAA Special Topics Diploma in Functional Training in 2008.
Prior to beginning his coaching duties, he earned his Bachelorof Arts degree in Political Science from St. John's University inCollegeville, Minn., in 1998.
