Katie Yoder is set to begin her second season as an assistant coach at her alma mater following a strong player career with the Beavers (2015 & 16 ).
In her first season on staff in 2017, she was instrumental in helping guide the Beavers to their second straight 20-win campaign, marking the first time the program has achieved the feat since 1998-99. The Beavers set or tied multiple school records on the year, including a school-record 23 home runs.
Yoder joined the BVU softball program as a junior and was a two-year starter and letterwinner after starting more than 60 games during that span. In her first campaign, she ranked third on the team with a .330 average, including 10 doubles and a pair of home runs.
The Shawnee, Kan., native started all 36 games throughout her senior year in 2016 and tied for the team lead with 27 runs scored. Her 19 walks ranked second as she led the way with seven stolen bases. Among all Iowa Conference players, she ended the year ranked in the top-10 in runs scored. She set a career-high early in the year with three hits and also scored three times against Elmhurst.
In her two seasons on the field, the program went from 15 wins the year before her arrival to winning 18 and 20 games, respectively. The 20-win season in 2016 was the prgoram's first since 2001.
Aside from her duties at BVU, Yoder is also serving as the head softball coach at Storm Lake St. Mary's High School.
