Jon Millea begins his fifth season as the top assistant coach for the men's basketball team in 2017-18.
In his first season back at his alma mater, he helped guide the Beavers to a share of the Iowa Conference regular season title before assisting them to its second title in three years in 2014-15.
He's been a key instructor with the team's post players since he joined the staff. In 2013-14, he helped mentor the league's Defensive Player of the Year in center Nick Wuebker, who averaged just under a double-double for the year. In 2012-13, he helped coach Wes Nordquist who was the league's top scorer and rebounder for the year.
A 2009 graduate of BVU, Millea served as an assistant men's basketball coach in 2011-12 at Mount Marty College in Yankton, S.D. Prior to that, he had served as an assistant men's basketball coach from 2009-11 at Southwest Minnesota State University, while working on his master of science degree in education – with an emphasis on sports leadership.
Millea, who is a Davenport, Iowa, native played four years under head coach Brian Van Haaften at BVU and was part of a senior class that went 78-33 during that span, including a stellar 50-14 mark in Iowa Conference play. He averaged nearly 13 minutes per game off the bench as a senior, while shooting nearly 55 percent from the floor, as the Beavers finished 23-3 overall (15-1 IIAC) that year.
He graduated from Buena Vista with a bachelor of arts degree in Sports/Fitness Management with a minor in Coaching.
He and wife, Makayla, reside in Storm Lake, along with their son Finnley.
