Cale Korbelik

Cale Korbelik begins his second season as an assistant coach with the cross country/track & field programs in 2020-21.

In his first season on campus, he helped coach a women's cross country team that posted its highest regional finish in program history while also landing its first all-region runner.  During the indoor track and field season, he helped coach a national qualifier and All-American before COVID-19 pandemic canceled the team's outdoor season.

Korbelik came to campus after serving as a graduate assistant coach for both the cross country and track & field programs at Whitworth University since 2017.  During his time with the Pirates, he helped coach the short sprints and relays.  The Pirates captured a ninth place finish at the 2018 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships before taking 12th in 2019.  Korberik was also in charge of all strength and conditioning duties for the program during his tenure and served as the recruiting coordinator.

Prior to moving out west, Korbelik earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Education with a minor in sports psychology and coaching in 2017 from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.  During that time on campus, he was also a member of the Bearcats' football and track & field teams.  He played on a national title team on the gridiron in 2013 and helped set the school record in the distance medley relay in 2016 by running the 400m leg.  He also spent time serving as a student assistant coach with the track & field team.

"I am extremely excited to have Cale join the track & field/cross country staff," says Slack.  "He had a great athletic career as a student-athlete and also brings a successful recruiting background. He has a blue collar mentality and is ready to work hard. I believe he is going to help this program progress into a high caliber contender in our conference."

A native of Omaha, Neb., Korbelik was a state runner-up in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes at Millard North High School and also played in a state championship football team in 2011.

He recently completed his master's degree from Whitworth in administrative and non-profit leadership.

Korbelik is USTFCCCA all-event certified in track and field, health education certified, and CPR certified.
