Chad Hustedt begins his seventh season overall on the Beaver football coaching staff in 2022 and his fourth serving as the offensive coordinator.
During his first season in the coordinator roll in 2019, the Beavers scored nearly 10.0ppg and averaged nearly 60.0 more yards per game than the year before. The program also had a pair of all-conference offensive selections that season, including its first All-American since 2016.
In 2022, Hustedt's offense rankd third in the conference in scoring, rushing and passing. BVU had a pair of running backs rank in the top-10 in yards per game, a quarterback that was third in yards per game and a receiver that was second in yards per contest.
Hustedt first joined the staff in 2016 and served as the running backs coach. In that season, BVU averaged better than 150ypg on the ground and had one individual rank third during conference play in rushing yards per game (104.0). He had served as defensive backs coach in 2017 and 2018.
Before stepping foot on campus, Hustedt spent six years as an assistant football coach for Ridge View High School in Holstein, Iowa. He served as defensive coordinator during his first four seasons before taking over the offensive play-calling duties during his last two. In 2015, he was named the district's Offensive Assistant Coach of the Year after the team went 9-2 and passed for nearly 2,000 yards and 20 TD's.
During his final year as defensive coordinator (2013), the Raptors tallied 14 total interceptions and finished the year at 9-2 overall. The team held opponents to less than 10 points in three straight games midway through the year.
In addition to his football duties, he also served as the Raptors' head boys golf coach and remained a fourth grade teacher within the school district through 2018.
Hustedt was a collegiate student-athlete himself at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where he played four years on the Mustang football team. In those four years, he was named the team's defensive MVP as a sophomore and junior before landing team MVP honors as a senior.
The Galva, Iowa native was tabbed an NAIA All-American defensive back as a sophomore before earning First Team accolades his final two seasons. He was also a three-time All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) performer. As a senior in 2007, Hustedt was named the GPAC Defensive Player of the Year.
He finished his stellar playing career with 410 tackles and 19 interceptions while helping lead the team to a 38-10 overall mark. The Mustangs also qualified into the NAIA playoffs each season.
Hustedt resides in Alta, Iowa, with his wife, Jennifer (a BVU alum), and their three children: Paisley, Presley and Grady.
