What do you like most about your sport?
I love how dance is not like any other sport. There are no games, no equipment while "playing", no off-season, and is fully team-based. There are only a few routines worked on all season just to compete twice, yet we start practicing in August to not compete until December. Most teams would not understand why we have to practice so much to compete so little. In dance, every detail counts. Every routine needs to be memorized inside and out. It is much more than remembering every move of the routine, you need to know every shoulder, elbow, wrist, and finger placement. Every hip, knee, ankle, foot, and toe placement, for every count of music, and do all of this with a smile on your face, lipstick on, and some hairstyle that inevitably makes your head hurt. I love that most people don't get it unless they're in it, and it will always be worth it for the feeling of performing.
Who is your favorite BVU professor and why?
My favorite professor is Beth Blankers. She teaches the most difficult accounting classes, and even with super difficult concepts, she explains them so well and clearly. She is the reason I love accounting.
Describe your average pregame ritual.
Before taking the floor at a competition, the dance team will stand in a circle in a "superwoman" pose. Hands on our hips, chest out, chip up, eyes closed. It focuses our minds and brings confidence before performing.
