About Jake: Is the son of Brad and Michele Bjorkgren. His father, Brad, played basketball at Simpson College.
High School Highlights: In high school Jake lettered in baseball and basketball in 2010 and 2011. In 2011, Jake received 2nd team All-Conference honors in basketball and 2nd team All-Conference honors, team captain in baseball.
College Highlights:
2015: Started eight games on the mound during his final season and went 4-3 overall with a 2.87 ERA. He appeared in 10 games overall and worked a total of 59.2 innings, allowing 19 earned runs as opposing batters hit .248 against him. He also struck out 37 batters while walking only seven. He worked six innings and allowed only two hits to pick up the win in his debut against Bethany Lutheran on March 9. He struck out a season-high six over for innings during BVU''s win against Wheaton on March 21. Following the year, he was named a Second Team All-IIAC performer by the league coaches.
2014: He made nine appearances, including seven starts, and posted a 5-1 record and a 5.04 ERA. His 44.2 innings were third-most on the staff. He struck out 31 batters and issued only seven walks. He picked up his first win of the year when we worked 6.1 innings and was charged with four earned runs at Nebraska Wesleyan on March 15, striking out four. Had his best outing of the year when he worked seven scoreless innings against Coe, allowing only five hits and striking out seven during BVU''s 3-0 victory on April 1.
2013: Joined the baseball team in the spring after playing basketball his first two years. He made 14 appearances (all relief) and went 2-2 with a strong 2.05 ERA. In 26.1 innings of work, he allowd only eight runs (six earned), while striking out 21 and walking just five. He allowed only four extra-base hits all season. He made his collegiate debut against North Park in the season-opener and worked 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk en route to his first career save. He also picked up a save in his next outing against Webster when he allowed one hit and struck out two over 0.2 innings. He pitched a season-high five scoreless innings and struck out three during BVU''s 4-3 win at Central on April 26.
