Becca Simpson capped off her NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling third-place finish in the shot put to earn All-American honors.
Simpson, who entered the championships seeded fifth in the event, sat in that spot until her final attempt in which she posted a heave of 14.60 meters which pushed her up to second. The mark was just shy of her school record of 14.64 meters set during the A-R-C Championships in February. With only a few individuals left to complete their final attempt, she would be bumped down to third. The performance gives her the program's first All-American performance in the event since Morgan Darrow placed eighth in 2010 while it is the highest-ever indoor finish in the event in program history.
