BUENA VISTA UNIVERSITY TO EXPAND AND RENOVATE ATHLETICS FACILITY

BVU has broken ground on a new addition to Siebens Fieldhouse, initiating phase one of a $10 million campaign dedicated to enhancing Beaver Athletics.

Spanning more than 7,000 square feet, the expansion will feature a new athletic performance facility with dedicated areas for strength training, conditioning, cross-training, and over 1,000 square feet of turf.

Athletic Training

Located in the lower level of Siebens Fieldhouse, the BVU athletic training facility provides 2,600 square feet of space for hydrotherapy, electronic stimulation, ultrasound and rehabilitation for members of the athletics teams. The area includes several offices for members of the training staff and a team physician.

Baseball Field

BVU and the Storm Lake Community School District share the baseball field located at the Storm Lake High School campus. The facility is notable for being the first in the state of Iowa to have field turf. The field also boasts a revitalized scoreboard, dugouts, bleachers and press box.

Baxter Wrestling Room

The Al Baxter Wrestling room spans 4,000 square feet and includes two 43x43-foot wrestling mats, seven stationary riding bikes, free weights, barbells of various weights and a sound system. Six windows facing the lighthouse on Storm Lake allow natural light to highlight the room. The room is named for legendary Buena Vista coach Al Baxter, who coached wrestlers from 1978 to 2004.

Buntrock Tennis Courts 

The Buntrock Tennis Courts, adjacent to Siebens Fieldhouse, are for use by BVU faculty, staff and students. The four courts were recently resurfaced and refurbished, providing an excellent atmosphere for tennis competition.

Fritcher Fitness Center

This 6,000-square-foot facility houses many types of free weights, selectorized equipment and tread mills for use by Buena Vista University students, faculty and staff. The facility is filled with 20 power stations 10 Olympic platforms, 10 Uesaka bumper plate sets, along with assorted barbells ranging from one to 150 pounds.

Buena Vista University Golf Course at Lake Creek

Located outside three miles outside of Storm Lake in Alta, the BVU Golf Course at Lake Creek is used for golf and cross country meets as well as for recreational purposes. Since 2019, the University has held naming rights to the course as part of a marketing partnership.

Indoor Facility: BVU Golf Lodge

Located on the first floor of Siebens Fieldhouse, our indoor golf facility features 800 square feet of putting/chipping surface, two Indoor hitting bays, a Foresight simulator with the FSX 2020 and FSX Play software, as well as a Garmin Approach R10 simulator.

With these state-of-the-art tools and playing surface, our athletes can practice and refine their game during any weather conditions.

 

J. Leslie Rollins Stadium and Peterson Field

J. Leslie Rollins Stadium and Peterson Field are home to BVU's football, soccer and track & field teams. 

The 3,000-seat facility stadium is named for James Leslie Rollins. Rollins was the star halfback on the 1925 football squad, was chosen as a Second and Third Team All-Conference team member and also played forward on the 1926 Iowa Conference Championship basketball team for Buena Vista.

Peterson field was named for Board of Trustee Cordell Peterson, Class of 1963, who made a 1.1 million dollar lead gift for renovations in 2011.

The facility features a synthetic turf playing surface, a blue polyurethane track and four 100-foot poles with lights that can provide 75 foot-candles of broadcast-standard illumination.

Lamberti Recreation Center

The Lamberti Recreation Center is a 54,000-square-foot facility that includes the six-lane, 200-meter Dennis Young Indoor Track and three multi-purpose courts: Brown Court, Pierce Court and Saggau Court; that are used for tennis, volleyball and basketball.

The BVU football, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and track and field teams all take advantage of this facility when the weather does not permit outdoor practices. The facility is also the venue for indoor collegiate and high school track invitational meets, alumni track invitational meets, indoor tennis, youth basketball shoot-outs and intramurals.

The facility is named in honor of Don Lamberti, chair of BVU's board of trustees and chairman of Casey's General Stores, for his multi-million-dollar leadership gift in funding the new building.

Siebens Fieldhouse

Siebens Fieldhouse, home to the Athletic Department, was originally dedicated on December 6, 1968. The facility included two handball courts; a training room; two locker rooms; faculty dressing room; equipment storage room; mechanical equipment room; laundry room; and storage room. The main floor featured classrooms, offices, staff locker room, restrooms, gymnasium and a storage room. 

Renovations over the years have included reconfigured locker room space, hardwood racquetball and gymnasium floors, and new heating and cooling systems. In addition, the athletic training room has been relocated and expanded, an indoor golf facility was added, and two classrooms were added to the lower level.

Soccer Field

Soccer Complex

The BVU Athletic Complex is located west of Vestal Street past 9th Street, five blocks from campus. This complex first hosted soccer matches in the fall of 2002 and has two championship soccer fields, a concession stand, and football practice fields.

Despite the addition of synthetic field turf and additional upgrades to Peterson Field in the spring of 2011 which has moved the games primarily inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, this complex is still used for practices and as a secondary playing source when needed.
