About Joe: Is the son of Jim Thraen and Cindy Speed...has one brother, Jacob, as well as one sister, Jordyn.
High School Highlights: Was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Wolves while playing for Coach Casey. He was a First Team All-District performer each season. He was a First Team All-Southwest Iowa selection by the Omaha World Herald as a junior and a Second Team selection as a senior. Also following his senior campaign, he earned First Team All-State honors by the Des Moines Register and Second Team accolades by the Iowa Newspaper Association.
In addition to football, he lettered four times in track, three in baseball and once in basketball. While on the diamond, he was a Second Team All-Western Iowa Conference selection as both a freshman and sophomore.
Aside from athletics, he was listed on the Honor Roll all four years as well as the Student Council each year.
College Highlights:
2017: Joe appeared in all ten games for the Beavers his senior season and again blocked for a quarterback that holds numerous school records. He would also record one tackle on the year on the defensive side of the ball.
2016: Joe played in nine games for the Beavers and blocked for a core of quarterbacks that totalled over 2,400 yards, and a runningback platoon that would rush for over 1,500 yards.
2015: He would appear in 9 games for the beavers. He would block for a 2,000 yard passer, and a rusher that averaged almost 5 yards per carry in an offense that had multiple all conference selections.
2014: Joe saw action in five games for the Beavers and helped block for an offense that had multiple all-conference selections. It helped produce a 1,000-yard rusher and a passing attack that threw for nearly 30 touchdowns and set numerous school records.
