MT. VERNON, Iowa (Sept. 11, 2026) - Freshman
Lucy Elsener came through with her first career goal during the second half of Friday afternoon's non-conference road match at Cornell College, but it was the Rams jumping out to a 3-0 halftime cushion and went on to defeat the Beavers 4-1.
BVU was playing its first full road contest of the season after having last Sunday's road match at Minnesota Morris suspended due to weather. Both teams came out and put the offensive pressure on each other with a combined 26 first half shots. The Rams, which had 14 of those shots, capitalized on two of them within the first 10 minutes of playing time before adding on the final goal of the half during the 16th minute.
Elsener cut into that deficit midway through the second half with her goal off an assist from fellow freshman Alohilani Kaloala-Maruquin to make it 3-1. Kaloala-Maruquin now has a team-leading four points this season. Elsener tied with Peyton Henricksen for the team lead with four total shots on the day. Kaloala-Maruquin was right behind with three. Elsener did have a team-best three shots-on-goal with Kaloala-Maruquin adding a pair on goal.
The Rams put the finishing touches on the scoring during the 78 minute as Eva Plathe turned in her second goal.

Elliana Fantasia played the entire first half in-goal for the Beavers before handing things over to fellow freshman
Denae Thayer for the entire second half.
Buena Vista (0-2-1) next travels to UW-Stevens Point on Friday, Sept. 18 for a non-conference outing beginning at 2 p.m.
