4/3/2026 9:52:00 PM

DECORAH, Iowa (Apr. 3, 2026) - Despite weather conditions forcing the event to end early, the Buena Vista women's and men's outdoor track & field teams were still able to complete a handful of events, higlighted by freshman Hailey Hearting's victory in the javelin throw.

Hearting was one of five individuals able to complete an event before the remainder of the meet was ended. She won the 16-member javelin with a heave of 39.53 meters (129-08) which moved her into 19th on the DIII rankings and is the third-best toss in program history. It won the event by just over eight feet.

Sophomore Ava Mills came in fifth in the high jump with a new season-best height of 1.45m (4-09) while Payton Schermerhorn and Emma Wiebold placed 12th and 14th in the discus.

On the men's side, senior Carter Braun came in second in the 1500m run with a time of 4:30.71 and was just two seconds off the winning time. Freshman Kaden Zweibahmer also captured a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.90m (39-0.5). Junior Nick Walch came in third during the pole vault which was moved indoors and cleared 3.70m while fellow freshman Eli Roberts came in third in the high jump by clearing 1.70m (5-7.0).

Buena Vista continues its schedule on April 11 at the Minnesota State Open in Mankato, Minn.
