Men's Golf Moves up a Spot into 5th after Rd 2 of A-R-C Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa (Apr. 27, 2026) - Buena Vista senior Mason Laven bounced back in a big way and moved up 12 spots on the individual leaderboard after posting the low round of 77 for the men's golf team during round two action of the A-R-C Championships on Monday at Glen Oaks Golf  & Country Club. As a team, BVU moved up one spot into fifth despite a round of 321.

Laven began the 54-hole tournament on Sunday with an opening round of 81 but used a strong first nine holes on Monday to highlight his round. He came out and shot a 2-over 37 to begin the round and closed the day out with a 40 on the back nine that included a pair of birdies. He will enter his final collegiate round tied for 21st overall and six shots back of the top-10.

Senior Matthew Turpen was positioned in seventh place after Sunday's round but struggled a bit more during round two on Monday and dropped down into a tie for 21st with Laven after posting the high-round of the day for the Beavers at 84. Reid Hany and Gabe Kramer both carded rounds of 81 with Hany now in 27th and Kramer up one spot to 29th. Kaleb Sander rounded out the scoring for the team with his round of 82.

Despite a round that was 11 shots higher than the team came out and posted on Sunday, the Beavers managed to climb up one spot on the team leaderboard and into fifth with a 36-hole score of 631. They sit just one shot clear of Wartburg, who dropped down into sixth. BVU enters the final round sitting seven shots back of fourth and 10 back of third.

The University of Dubuque remains the clubhouse leader heading into the final 18 holes on Tuesday after posting a second round 299. The Spartans are 17 shots clear of second-place Nebraska Wesleyan, which jumped all the way up from fourth and matching Dubuque's round of 299.

Final round action is set to officially begin at 9 a.m.on Tuesday. Buena Vista golfers will go off in the second wave with Kramer going off first starting at 9:45 a.m. Laven will be the team's final golfer to tee-off as he hits the course starting at 10:21 a.m.
