Baseball Splits DH to begin Series with Johnnies

SHAWNEE, Kan. (Feb. 27, 2026) - The Buena Vista baseball team began a three-game weekend series against Saint John's University (MN) on Friday afternoon by splitting a doubleheader with the Johnnies. BVU came out and held off a late ninth-inning rally by SJU to win 13-8, but the Johnnies started fast in the nightcap en route to an 11-1 victory.

The Johnnies scored five times in the first inning and twice more in the second to take control early in game two. BVU got on the board with an RBI groundout from junior Jake Eddie in the third inning, but that proved to be all the scoring by either team until Saint John's tacked on four more runs in the eighth.

Sophomore catcher Dylan Johnson had two hits to lead BVU which tallied six overall. Sophomore lefthander Dylan Johnson got the start on the mound for the Beavers but was chased after just 4.2 innings where he was tagged for seven runs and seven hits and four walks. Wes Weakes pitched a perfect 1.1 innings of relief with one strikeout while Drew Camman came on and worked the final two innings.

Buena Vista is 2-3 on the year and will look to win the series on Saturday afternoon with first pitch of the single nine-inning game set for noon.
