LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 18, 2026) - Junior Kyle Sternberg scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds for Buena Vista on Wednesday night, but the performance was overshadowed by a late 8-0 run by Nebraska Wesleyan that gave the Prairie Wolves an 81-71 victory.

Sternberg, who came in averaging a touch under 10.0 points per game this season, was 5-of-13 from the field and made all eight free-throw attempts. It was his second 20-point game of the year and his second double-double in the last four games. His 15 rebounds surpass his previous career-high of 13 set last year at Marian.

Keaton Flaherty and Adam Bryte each scored 11 points and combined to shoot 8-of-11 from the field. Both players did the bulk of their scoring in the second half. Junior Carter Sievers, who entered the game 23 points away from 1,000 in his career, chipped in with nine points before fouling out in the final minute.

Buena Vista shot 45 percent from the field overall and was 8-for-22 from downtown. After a slow start at the free-throw line, the team heated up and made all eight attempts in the second half and was 17-of-22 for the game, marking the fifth time in the last seven games that it made at least 17.

The Prairie Wolves (18-6, 13-2 A-R-C) made seven first half three-point buckets while BVU was only 2-of-7, but the Beavers outscored NWU by eight in the paint and trailed only 36-35 at the half. BVU had multiple five-point leads midway through the second half but couldn't push the advantage up any higher.

Sternberg made a pair of free-throws that gave BVU a 66-62 lead before five quick points by the Prairie Wolves gave them the lead for good. It was still a 73-71 game with under two minutes left after a three-pointer from Bryte. The Prairie Wolves, however, pulled away at the free-throw line by making six over the final 90 seconds.

Nick Howard led five Nebraska Wesleyan players in double figures with 16 points.

Buena Vista drops to 13-11 overall (6-9 A-R-C). The team remains tied for fifth with Simpson and is one game in front of Central (5-10 A-R-C) and Wartburg (6-10 A-R-C). The Beavers host Loras College (18-6, 12-3 A-R-C) on Saturday, Feb. 21, for Senior Day at 2 p.m.
