LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 18, 2026) - Junior Kyle Sternberg scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds for Buena Vista on Wednesday night, but the performance was overshadowed by a late 8-0 run by Nebraska Wesleyan that gave the Prairie Wolves an 81-71 victory.
Sternberg, who came in averaging a touch under 10.0 points per game this season, was 5-of-13 from the field and made all eight free-throw attempts. It was his second 20-point game of the year and his second double-double in the last four games. His 15 rebounds surpass his previous career-high of 13 set last year at Marian.
Keaton Flaherty and Adam Bryte each scored 11 points and combined to shoot 8-of-11 from the field. Both players did the bulk of their scoring in the second half. Junior Carter Sievers, who entered the game 23 points away from 1,000 in his career, chipped in with nine points before fouling out in the final minute.
Buena Vista shot 45 percent from the field overall and was 8-for-22 from downtown. After a slow start at the free-throw line, the team heated up and made all eight attempts in the second half and was 17-of-22 for the game, marking the fifth time in the last seven games that it made at least 17.
