Men's Soccer Blanks Spurgeon 2-0

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 3, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's soccer team was in control throughout Saturday night's Homecoming match against Spurgeon and scored both goals during the first half of a  2-0 shutout over the Knights.

BVU came out and outshout Spurgeon by an 11-1 margin over the first 45 minutes and never looked back. Junior Jeramiah Rediske took a stellar cross field pass from way out off a free kick from sophomore Vincent Demsey, and after one dribble forward, stopped and blasted it into the back of the net for his second goal of the year and sixth during his career at the 11th minute. Dempsey dishes out his second assist of the year and the third of his career.

Later in the first half during the 31st minute, the Beavers doubled their margin on the first career goal from freshman Zackary Jakobitz.  Jakobitze finished the match with a career-best three shots with two coming on-goal. Spurgeon tried to put a little pressure on throughout the second half and got eight shots but  only four on-goal.

The shutout is the third straight for the Beavers and fourth overall this season. Junior Alexis Sanabia went the distance in-goal and tallied five saves overall.

Freshman Kenin Kapich turned in a team-leading five shots with three on goal and dished out his first collegiate assist. Rediske and Jakobitz each took three shots and combined for three on-goal.

Buena Vista improves to 3-3-3 overall and travels to Simpson College (3-2-3, 0-0 A-R-C) to begin American Rivers Conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
