Beavers Prevail 70-63 in OT at Central

PELLA, Iowa (Jan. 24, 2026) - Sophomore Bradi Krager scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while sophomore Tyme Boettcher and freshman Adeeya Yanga each added 17 points, as the Buena Vista women's basketball team came away with a thrilling 70-63 overtime road victory on Saturday at Central College to avenge its earlier loss to the Dutch this season.

The Dutch led 56-51 with three minutes remaining in regulation after a made three-point basket, but the BVU defense buckled down and would hold the Dutch scoreless the remainder of the half. Krager made a layup two minutes later that cut the deficit down to two and then tied things up later on with a pair of made free-throws with 34 seconds left. She nearly won the game in regulation on a three-point shot at the buzzer that hit just off the front of the rim from the right wing.

Yanga drove down the lane for the first basket of the extra period and moments later added another layup that gave the Beavers a 60-57 lead only 60 seconds in. BVU held the Dutch scoreless over the next three minutes and went on to extend the margin up to nine after two more made free-throws by Krager, who finished the game 8-of-10 at the line.

Central didn't go down quietly and came back with four quick points to get within 66-61 with 52 seconds to go. Boettcher would then calmly sink a pair of free-throws while Krager and junior Mary Walker each made one down the stetch that essentially put the game out of reach.

Krager finished the game shooting 6-of-13 overall to go along with the strong performance at the free-throw line by finishing one make shy of her career-high. She added to her defensive play by also recording four steals. Boettcher made a team-leading three shots from behind the arc (3-of-9) and also added three steals. Yanga was an efficient 6-of-9 shooting and also chipped in with eight boards. Senior Danika Demers did her part by dishing out a team-high four assists and matching her career-high with five steals.

Buena Vista jumped out to an 11-0 lead and held Central scoreless for over the first five minutes of the opening quarter. Central, however, chipped away and closed the quarter on a 12-3 run to pull within 14-12 going to the second. Both teams made five field goals in the second half as the Beavers held a slight 26-25 lead at the half. Both teams came out and shot at a 50 percent clip in the third quarter with the Dutch outscoring BVU by eight and taking a 47-41 lead to the fourth. The Beavers made only three field goals in the final stanza but used a 9-of-12 effort at the charity stripe to pull even. Central did not attempt a single free-throw in the frame.

As a team, the Beavers were held to only 34 percent shooting from the field and just 6-of-26 from behind the arc but made 18 free-throws compared to an 11-of-12 effort by the Dutch (7-11, 2-7 A-R-C).

Buena Vista has won six of its last seven games overall and improves to 11-7 (5-4 A-R-C). The team remains on the road to play at coe College (14-4, 8-1 A-R-C) on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside of Kohawk Arena.
