Late First Half Goal Sends Men's Soccer to 1-0 Win over Grinnell

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 23, 2025) - Freshman Andres Gonzalez found sophomore Dominic Kamrath on a nice touch pass just in front of the box, and that goal was the difference as the Buena Vista men's soccer team held off Grinnell College, 1-0, on Tuesday evening.

BVU came up with the loose ball after a Pioneer throw in and from there Gonzalez gained control of the ball kicked down the field where he proceed to find a surging Kamrath who poked it in with little ease during the 34th minute. For Kamrath, it is his second goal of the season while Gonzalez dishes out his first assist. Gonzalez also has a pair of goals on the year and leads the team with five points.

The two teams finished with three shots apiece during the first half, and the second half was just as evenly matched on both ends. BVU held a slight edge in total shots for the match at 8-7 and both teams had four corner kicks.

Gonzalez, along with senior Kendall Bickford and freshman Bradyen Schwinck, had two shots to lead the way with Bickford turning in a match-high two shots-on-goal.

Zachary Sigler went the distance in-goal for the Beavers and notched his third shutout of the year while registering six saves.

The win over the Pioneers snaps BVU's 12-match losing streak in the series. The Beavers last defeated Grinnell College, 2-1, back in 2007 in a match played in Storm Lake. The Pioneers handed the team a 7-0 defeat inside J. Leslie Rollins Stadium a year ago.

Buena Vista improves to 4-3 on the season and will now begin American Rivers Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Wartburg College. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
