INDIANOLA, Iowa (Sept. 21, 2025) - The Buena Vista women's tennis team went on the road Saturday morning for an American Rivers Conference match that had been rescheduled from September 10, and the Beavers used a strong showing in single play to get past the Storm by a 5-2 margin.
Simpson held off the Beavers No. 1 doubles tandem of
Macy Weller and
Hannah Higgins, 6-4, and that proved to be the difference as the Storm grabbed the doubles point and led 1-0.
From there, though, BVU picked up steam in singles play and went on to win five of the six matches with its only loss coming in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 by senior
Taylor Fritz. Higgins and Weller both got things rolling from their respective No. 1 and No. 2 slots. Higgins improves to 2-4 on the year in singles play while Weller is now 1-0 since rejoining the program earlier in the month.
Senior
Hailey Meseck picked up a straight set win at No. 4 with a pair of 6-3 victories and at No.5, her freshman sister
Abbey Meseck, held on for a 7-6 triumph in the first set before rolling to a 6-0 victory in the second.
Charlie Rayford picked up a thrilling three-set tiebreaker victory at No. 6 to close things out for the Beavers. She went on to win the opening set, 6-4 before dropping the second 7-6. She came through in the tiebreaker for her first singles win of the year.
Buena Vista improves to 1-6 overall (1-2 A-R-C) and will now make the trip to Dubuque, Iowa, this weekend to take on the University of Dubuque at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, before facing Loras College on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m.
