The Lancers responded back early in the 13' when Zach Hebda knocked in a shot off an assist from Lukas Amaya, who played a nice feed into the top of a crowded box. Midway through the opening half, Mount Marty then took its first lead on what proved to be the eventual game-winner from Arthur Rodriguez.
Both teams went back-and-forth on the attack throughout the match. BVU had six total shots in the opening half while the Lancers had five. Mount Marty held the edge in the second half with 12 while the Beavers had five. The two sides had plenty of strong looks at goal but narrowly missed wide of the goal multiple times.
Schwinck turned in a team-leading four shots in the contest to lead the Beavers with two of those attempts on-goal. Seven different players chipped in with one shot apiece, including a shot-on-goal from senior Caleb Swanson. Hebda had a team-high four shots for the Lancers (1-1), including two on-goal.
Junior Zachary Sigler, the A-R-C Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, went the distance in-goal for BVU and turned in five saves.
Buena Vista is now 2-2 overall and is back on the road for the first time since playing its season opener two weeks ago. The team travels east to Monmouth College on Saturday, Sept. 13, for a non-conference match that kicks-off at 1 p.m.
