Overwatch Navy Advances to Grand Finals with 3-1 victory over Rio Grande

Battle of undefeated teams for the championship next week

STORM LAKE, Iowa - For the first time in school history the BVU Navy Overwatch team will be advancing to grand finals in their division. BVU defeated #4 University of Rio Grand, 3-1 (0-2, 3-2, 1-0, 3-0) in ECAC Division D semifinals. The Beavers will play #2 seed Saint Peter's University next Thursday, April 17 at 7 pm for the championship. It will be a battle of undefeated teams next week.

The best of five started with the two teams playing game mode control on Lijang Tower. The first point was a battle back and forth as the Rio Grande won the first point and moving the percentage to 10-percent. BVU took control after that moving their percentage to 60-percent before URG took back control winning the first point. RGU continued to dominate the first map winning point two in demanding fashion claiming the 1-0 lead in the series.

Map two was played on Midtown in the game mode of hybrid. The Beavers were able to get all three points to open the map before only allowing URG two to claim victory on map two which evened the series at one.

The third map chosen was Colosseo in game mode push. The two teams have to open with a battle and the winner will take control of the Robot. After that then they have to push the Robot to the end location to earn the point. If it is tied at the end of the 10 minutes the team that pushes the Robot farther gets the point. The Beavers were able to win this map 2-0 taking the 2-1 series lead.

The final map was on Suravasa with game mode flash point. The teams battle to hold point to 100% to earn the point. The Beavers took over and won 3-0 taking the 3-1 victory.

The Beavers team consists of Mackenzi Toomer, Aidan Cavazos, Aiden Webber, Serafin Galvan and Nicco LaBryer
