Emory Sweeps DH from Beaver Softball on Thursday

ATLANTA, Ga. (Mar. 6, 2025) - The Buena Vista softball team faced a tough offensive team in Emory University for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon and would suffer a tough sweep by the Eagles by scores of 12-0 and 8-0, both in five innings.

It was all Emory in game one as the Eagles scored four runs in the first, two more in the third and the final six in the fourth. They sprayed the ball around the diamond, but had only two of their 14 hits in the game go for extra-bases.

Junior Rylie Garner was 1-for-2 for the Beavers with a double as senior Paige Druskis and freshman Lindy Nelson also added one hit apiece.

Junior Grace Fuhrman pitched 3.2 innings in a starting role for BVU and allowed seven runs and 10 hits, walked one and struck out one. Fellow junior Kenize Dumbaugh then took the reins and was touched up for five runs and four hits over her 0.2 innings.

The Eagles continued their hit barrage in game two, pounding out 13 more, with most of the damage coming from the bottom half of their lineup.

They came out and got a solo home run in the first and led 1-0 before adding three more runs in the second. After pushing another run across in the third to make it a 5-0 cushion, the Eagles orchestrated a two-out, bases empty rally with a double and three straight RBI singles to win in walk-off fashion.

Freshman Jordan Fabirkiewicz singled in the second inning for BVU's lone hit of the contest.

Karli Irlmeier made her fourth start of the year inside the circle for the Beavers and scattered 12 hits and was responsible for all eight runs while walking one and striking out one. Freshman Bradi Krager came in to pitch to the final batter.

Buena Vista drops to 1-9 on the year and will close out the spring trip with a doubleheader on Friday against Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. First pitch of game one is at 1 p.m. (CT).
