Luther Hands Women's Basketball 85-50 Loss on Alumni Day

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 1, 2025) - The Buena Vista University women's basketball team was back home on Saturday afternoon to host Luther College on Alumni Basketball Day but the Norse shot over 50 percent from the field and pulled away for an 85-50 victory inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

The game was back-and-forth throughout the first quarter with the Norse scoring the final five points of the frame to lead 19-14 heading to the second. That momentum carried over for Luther as it came out and scored the first seven of the second to cap a 12-0 run and lead 26-14 two-and-a-half minutes into the quarter.

A three-pointer by senior McKenna Cone followed by a three-point play from junior Madalynn Hilgendorf cut the deficit in half and make it 26-20 at the 6:54 mark. From there, the Norse closed the half on an 18-6 run to lead 44-26 at the break.

The Norse began the second half making their first four shot attempts, including three from behind the arc, as they pulled away from there. Luther outscored BVU 30-12 in the third quarter with the Beavers holding a slim 12-11 margin in the fourth.

Freshman Tyme Boettcher led Buena Vista with 15 points in the contest on 6-of-13 shooting. Fellow freshman Bradi Krager made 6-of-8 free-throw attempts and followed with eight points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Cone, along with junior Danika Demers, chipped in with seven points apiece. Demers also tallied three assists and a pair of steals.

Buena Vista struggled from the field, shooting only 27.9 percent (17-of-61) and going just 4-of-22 from behind the arc. The Norse, meanwhile, shot over 52 percent overall and buried 11-of-26 from downtown (42.3 percent). They outscored the Beavers, 42-20, in the paint.

Kate Hosking turned in a game-high 23 points, on 4-o-f8 shooting from long range, to help lead Luther (14-6, 7-4 A-R-C). Kailey Jones turned in a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
