STORM LAKE, Iowa (Oct. 24, 2025) - The Buena Vista football team (2-4, 1-3 A-R-C) is back at home this Saturday to host Loras College (1-5, 1-3 A-R-C) and looking to win its third game inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium this season.

GAME NOTES

INSIDE THE SERIES:
Buena Vista won last year's match-up played in Dubuque, 20-17, which snapped the Beavers' six-game losing streak in the series…The two program's first played back in 1913 with Loras named St. Joseph at that time and won 13-7…BVU's first win in the series was a 14-0 triumph in 1929…Both teams have met up on the gridiron every year since 1986…The Beavers have a pair of six-game win streaks over the Duhawks all-time while Loras owns one seven-game streak over BVU.

LAST TIME OUT:
Buena Vista: The Beavers scored on the opening drive last week at the University of Dubuque and led 7-0 after the first quarter, but the Spartans added a pair of second quarter touchdowns to lead BVU 14-7 at the half. Dubuque then used a big third quarter and outscored BVU 26-6 in the frame to break the game open en route to a 47-20 win. The Beavers ended with 342 total yards of offense and got a balanced attack with 162 on the ground and 180 through the air.

Loras: The Duhawks held a 13-6 halftime lead over No. 8 Wartburg College but was then outscored 34-7 in the second half and fell to the Knights, 40-20. Despite the loss, the team used a big air attack to finish with 401 yards passing but had only -24 net yards rushing. The team also held the ball five minutes longer that Warburg in the game and was 12-of-22 on third down opportunities. Will Phillips was 28-for-36 through the air for 236 yards and one touchdown while Jacob Richtman went 18-of-28 for 163 yards and one score.

ABOUT BUENA VISTA: The Beavers return home and looking to get back into the win column following their tough 47-20 road loss at the University of Dubuque last week where the Spartans scored 41 unanswered points after BVU jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. The team has scored first in each of the last three games, but in the two losses during that stretch, has been outscored a combined 33-6 in the third quarter. During conference play this season, the Beavers are one of the top teams in the league in rushing, ranking fourth at 162.3 yards per game. Senior Meven Obregon is third among all running backs in those games, averaging 100.5. Through the air, the team is ranked seventh at 178.5ypg with sophomore Johnny Messerly ranked in the top-10 with over 63.0ypg receiving. Defensively, junior Drew Volkmann has been a steady anchor for the unit with a team-high 40 tackles and three interceptions. Junior defensive back Brody Boeckman is also among the team's top tacklers and has been a force in defending the pass with nearly 10 breakups. As a team, it continues to rank in the top-25 of Division III in defending the pass by allowing under 156 yards passing per game. The team continues to improve in slowing down the run but is allowing over 190.0 per game against A-R-C opponents.

SCOUTING THE DUHAWKS: Loras got into the win column for the first time this season two weeks ago on the road at Nebraska Wesleyan (31-28). The Duhawks carried that momentum into last week's showdown with the highly-ranked Knights before the tough second half. For the year, the team is allowing over 38 points per game and scoring nearly 20. The team comes in one of the top passing games in the A-R-C at 253.0 yards per game despite using multiple quarterbacks. Three different players have tossed for at least 200 yards overall, led by Phillips at 819 yards and four touchdowns while completing nearly 67 percent of his attempts. Joey Helminiak follows at 502 yards and three TD passes. Richtman has attempted only 34 passes but does have 200 yards on the year and a pair of TD's. The Duhawks have been less effective on the ground by averaging only 42.0 yards per game and 1.4 per attempt. Carter Cahill has a team-leading 79 rushes on the year and 167 yards. Myles Schumacher has scored all four of the team's rushing touchdowns on the year with 124 yards on 49 carries. On the flip-side of the ball, Loras is allowing over 200 yards rushing per game and 230 yards through the air.
