SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (Jan. 11, 2025) - The Buena Vista University indoor track & field teams got their seasons underway on Saturday by sending a select group of individuals to the Dordt Open.
Fifth-year senior
Kyle Miller captured the team's lone individual title on the day in the 600m while both sides came away with several top-5 finishes and several marks that rank high in program history.
BVU Women Highlights
- Claire Schroeder placed second in the 60m hurdles (9.04). The time was tied for the second-fastest of her career.
- Megan Bakke placed third overall in the 600m (1:45.11) which is ranked sixth on the program's all-time list.
- Ava Mills placed seventh in the high jump (1.50m; 4'11") which ranks seventh on the program's all-time list.
- Senior Courtney Johnson and sophomore Payton Schermerhorn placed second and third, respectively, in the shot put.
BVU Men Highlights
- Sophomore Devon Schultz placed second in the pole vault (4.45m) which bettered his all-time best and is second all-time at BVU.
- Fifth-year Kyle Miller won the 600m run (1:22.43) and his time is the fifth-fast in program history
- Sophomore Gavin Firchau set a personal best mark of 12.64m in the triple jump
UP NEXT: The Beavers will resume their schedule while sending the full team to the Mount Marty Open on Jan. 17-18 in Yankton, S.D.
