Men's Soccer Moves to 3-0 after Home Win over North Central (MN)

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 4, 2024) - It was a hard fought and physical match-up on Wednesday night inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, but the Buena Vista University men's soccer team made it three straight wins to begin the year after rallying for a 3-1 non-conference victory over North Central University (MN).

The Rams drilled a shot to the upper right hand corner of the net over the head of a diving Zachary Sigler midway through the first half en route to a 1-0 halftime lead.

Jeramiah Rediske pulled the Beavers even at 1-1 midway through the second half when he took a feed from Kendall Bickford as he raced down the right side and connected for a goal to the lower left part of the goal for his second goal this season. Five minutes later,  Caleb Swanson connected on a feed to Jacob Adams which gave BVU its first lead of the night at 2-1. Senior Sota Usui capped the scoring three minutes after that when he knocked through his first goal of the year with assists tallied to both Swanson and Jacob Kirchner.

Buena Vista has now won its first three matches in a season for the first time since also beginning the year at 3-0 in 2012.

Usui led BVU with three shots in the match while Rediske, Bickford and Swanson each finished with two shots. Four others chipped in with one apiece as the Beavers tallied 13 overall. Sigler played another strong match in-goal while going the distance and posting three saves.

A total of 11 yellow cards were handed out in the match with nearly 30 combined fouls dished out.

Next up for BVU will be a non-conference home match versus Hamline University on Sunday, Sept. 8, starting at 6 p.m.
