Volleyball Loses a Pair of 3-0 Matches at Minn.-Morris Triangular

MORRIS, Minn. (Sept. 21, 2024) - The Buena Vista University volleyball team was right back out on the court Saturday morning for a pair of matches at the University of Minnesota-Morris Triangular, but after its win on Friday evening, the Beavers suffered 3-0 setbacks against the host Cougars as well as Bethel University.

Fifth-year senior Rachel Brockney led BVU against UM-M with 11 kills and eight digs, Sydney Meints followed with seven kills and Reese Nieuwenhuis chipped in with three. Sophomore Jadyn Rausch dished out 18 assists with junior Mallory Ignaszewski dishing out three to go along with her team-high 10 digs.

BVU had 27 kills in the match but were hindered by 20 attack errors and seven serving errors. The Cougars had 14 kills and no attack errors in the opening set en route to a 25-11 victory and had only one error in the second set while picking up a 25-12 win. The two teams combined for 27 kills in the third set but UM-M held off the Beavers down the stretch to take a 25-23 victory.

Brockney again led the way with nine kills as Nieuwenhuis and Meints each tallied five. Brockney now sits with 891 career kills and is 25 digs away from 800. Rausch was the team lead with 17 assists and added 10 digs. The Beavers again finished with 27 kills and had 19 kills while the Royals had 42 kills compared to 14 attack errors. BVU was held to only four kills in the opening set while Bethel recorded 15 and took the opening stanza, 25-16. The two teams were more even in the second but the Beavers came up short, 25-22, and then Bethel would close out the sweep with a 25-17 win in the third.

Buena Vista is 5-12 on the year and has just over a week off before it begins American Rivers Conference play on the road at Wartburg College on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m.
